The Farm

We finally arrived at our next destination, a farm in the Outback after a long days drive. We found there were about 10 km’s between farms and each had about 2500 -6000 acres.  The first nights dinner was a long awaited home cook meal; roast beef with  a nice glass of wine and early to bed .  The next morning Peter &Murray woke up early and went for a jog.  Very difficult with the high humity.
After breakfast we were introduced to the horses that we would be riding. We saddled our own horse and off we went for a tour of the farm.  After 2.5 hrs of riding through the hills and the forest we were ready for a hardy meal but that was only after we washed down our horses and brushed them.
The farm had a pet 8 month old kangaroo, Nathalie who had been injured and was being nursed back to health. She was bottle fed twice a day. They also had a cockatoo and a parrot who hopped around and talked to the guests. We had a bit of a scare that night when Nick, one of our young Brits almost stepped on a brown snake – a deadly snake. Fortunately PJ, our guide saw it and off with its head!!!!                                                                      After lunch we went to an open pit coal mind which was flooded due to the recent rains.  It was a massive hole and they still had 80 meters  of water to pump out. They figured about another 200 days to get it empty with 12 pumps working each pumping 40000L\min. Tomorrow we have a 700k drive up to the devasation of the recent cyclone. Lets hope there is still a place to sleep.
